The Second Annual Nancy McDaniel Lectureship on Women in Leadership to Be Given by Dorrie Fontaine Ph.D., RN, FAAN on April 17 at 4 pm
Dorothy “Dorrie” Fontaine is the Dean Emerita and Professor at the University of Virginia, School of Nursing. She retired in 2020 after serving as dean for eleven years. She founded UVA’s signature Compassionate Care Initiative in 2009, and she lectures widely on the importance of teaching resilience practices to nurse and medical students as well as clinicians and faculty to help create healthy work environments. In 2019 the University of Virginia, School of Nursing won the first Healthy Work Environment Award for an academic setting from Sigma, Nursing’s Honor Society. In 2021, she published the book Self-Care for New and Student Nurses with coeditors Dr. Tim Cunningham and Dr. Natalie May which received a Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing.
