Jordy Yager of the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center will present “Examining Equity Through History,” an examination of the racialized historic landscape of the Charlottesville area. Mr. Yager and a team of volunteers have reviewed thousands of local property deeds drawn up between 1888 and 1968 and have identified those with restrictions prohibiting African Americans from living there. The data, recorded on a digital map, provides a starting point for shaping more equitable regional policies going forward.
