Dorrie Fontaine, who has been Dean of the School of Nursing since 2008, is retiring on July 31. She has been a strong proponent of mindfulness, compassion and promoting healthy work environments during her tenure as Dean. Among her many accomplishments, she founded the Compassionate Care Initiative (https://cci.nursing.virginia.edu/ ), and supported many UVa health care providers involved in end of life care to attend the Being with Dying program with Roshi Joan Halifax at the Upaya Zen Center.
