The UVa Mindfulness Center, in collaboration with the Be Wise Program, recently offered a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course for the staff of the UVa Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit as part of a pilot project. Thirteen people completed the program. Stress and wellbeing were measured before and after the course. The average scores in all the domains that were assessed improved significantly. Overall the participants felt the course was very valuable and met or exceeded their expectations. The results of this program were consistent with other studies, including those done by the UVa Mindfulness Center, that have shown the benefits of MBSR in improving well-being and decreasing stress and burnout among healthcare providers.
