Mindfulness Reduces Stress in College Students

Researchers from Saint Louis University conducted a review of the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation in reducing stress among college students.  They identified 57 studies that addressed this question.  Anxiety was evaluated in 40 studies, self-reported stress in 34, physiological stress in 11, and mindfulness in 24. Overall, 33 of 40 studies found significant decreases in anxiety, 25 of 34 found significant decreases in stress, and 22 of 24 found increases in mindfulness.   The authors concluded that “Overall, mindfulness meditation shows promise in reducing stress and anxiety in college students.”
