Meg G. Keeley, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Education in the School of Medicine

Dr. Meg G. Keeley has been named Senior Associate Dean for Education in the School of Medicine. She has served in an interim capacity since July 2021, overseeing the continuum of medical education programs in UME, GME, CME as well as the graduate programs in biomedical and public health sciences. Dr. Keeley is the Harrison Distinguished Professor of Medical Education and Professor of Pediatrics. Previously, she held positions as director of the Fourth-Year Program, director of Dual Degree programs, assistant dean for Student Affairs and the inaugural dean of Dunglison College. Dr. Keeley received her medical and undergraduate degrees from UVA, completed her pediatric training at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and has been a member of the faculty since 1996.

Dr. Keeley’s research and scholarship focus on several areas of medical education including clinical skills, professional identity formation, student advising, educational handovers and learning communities. She holds a patent for a clinical skills task trainer and has been honored with teaching awards including the All-University Teaching Award. She is a member of the Academy for Excellence in Education. Dr. Keeley is the past national chair of the Learning Communities Institute, and currently sits on their Board of Governors. In 2018, she was honored with the Arky Award for significant contributions to the development of learning communities in medical education. She also represented the School of Medicine as a Faculty Senator and is a member the Board of the UVA Medical Alumni Association where she was the Board Treasurer.

Dr. Keeley has been engaged in education at a national level. She has served on a number of National Board of Medical Examiners committees and is an active member of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics and the Alliance for Clinical Education. Dr. Keeley is faculty at the Harvard Macy Institute and completed The Executive Program at the Darden School of Business.
