Spring is the perfect metaphor for all the good that is blossoming in our future. With this inaugural edition of the SOM weekly newsletter, Medicine in Motion, many of the ideas planted when I arrived last fall are growing.
I’ve spent the last half-year listening to and learning from all of you. Among the most consistent messages was that the School of Medicine needed a vehicle to promote the accomplishments of all the members of our School as well as a definitive source for conveying essential and timely information. Now that this weekly publication is available, I strongly encourage you to help it grow by submitting your accomplishments, news, and events.
I have also started visiting the faculty in our 29 departments. These meetings are an incredible opportunity to share with all of you what I have learned and how we are starting to address some of your most significant concerns. I remain committed to ensuring that our School of Medicine adheres to our ASPIRE values while achieving our vision and missions.
I am proud to share with you events such as Match Day, an important day for our medical students and our clinical training programs. It is one of the reasons we are all here—to educate the next generation of physicians and physician scientists. You can share in the excitement through this video.
I’m also extremely proud of our U.S. News & World Report School of Medicine rankings announced this week. Even with a global pandemic disrupting everything we did, your resiliency and commitment to excellence in education, clinical care, and research were remarkable. Your work matters and is impactful for so many people.

I’ll continue to use this newsletter to communicate more of what I’m hearing from you and the steps we are taking to address concerns and take advantage of opportunities. Let’s keep working to maintain and grow this beautiful garden we’re planting together.
