Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Stephen S. Park, MD, Professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, has been appointed Chair of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, effective September 1, 2017.
The former secretary and then president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Park is an internationally recognized expert in facial plastic techniques. He serves as Director on the American Board of Otolaryngology, Director of CME for the Triological Society, and member of the International Rhinologic Society’s International Advisory Board.
Dr. Park is charged with identifying and developing clinical programs for strategic growth and facilitating research collaborations between Otolaryngology and other departments.
After receiving his Medical Degree from the University of Michigan, Dr. Park completed a residency in Otolaryngology at Tufts University and a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University. He joined the faculty of the University of Virginia in 1994 as the director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Paul Levine, who has served as the department’s chair since 1997, will return to full-time clinical practice. Recognized nationally and internationally as a leading academic head and neck cancer surgeon, Dr. Levine has served as a member of all of the major societies in his field and as a leader of many of them, as well as the editor of JAMA Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His dedication to the University of Virginia led him to assume the responsibility of many institutional leadership roles on behalf of the Health System throughout the years.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Park for his new role and thanking Dr. Levine for his years of distinguished service.
Sincerely,
David S. Wilkes, MD
