The UVA School of Medicine is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the R01 Immersion Program—a new, 9-month program designed specifically to support junior faculty as they prepare for the submission of an R01 proposal.
This structured, mentorship-driven program brings together small teams of early-career researchers and senior faculty mentors with strong NIH funding track records. Participants will receive expert guidance, peer feedback, and dedicated support to develop and submit competitive R01 proposals.
Key Program Highlights:
- Team-based mentorship from experienced NIH-funded faculty.
- Subject-aligned cohorts (basic science, computational, or clinical focus).
- Workshops and events tailored to guide mentees through the process and strengthen their proposals.
- Opportunity to join a growing, collaborative community of peers and mentors across the School of Medicine.
Applicant Requirements:
- Dedicated commitment to the program timeline and events.
- Identification of an internal (ISME) and external (ESME) subject matter expert.
- Support from the Department Chair.
- Submission of an NIH R01 proposal within one year of program completion.
Applications will be accepted through June 11, 2025. Additional details, including the application form, can be found on the School of Medicine website.
