With support from the SOM Office for Research, the School of Medicine announces another round of its Gap Research Funding program, with a deadline of January 16, 2023.
Gap funding covers submitted and scored applications that are not renewals and would not fall under bridge funding criteria. Gap funding eligibility requires a scored, peer-reviewed federal grant proposal, such as:
- Scored new NIH proposals that follow from non-renewable, national peer-reviewed awards, such as DOD, AHA, or other foundations.
- Scored NIH proposals for NEW projects. Please apply to the Bridge/Interim program if the proposal represents a continuation of a previously project that was not re-funded at competitive renewal.
For projects with annual direct costs ≥$180,000, faculty can request total Gap funding up to $70,000 over a 12-month period. For projects below that threshold, a total of $40,000 may be requested.
Funding of Gap awards will be shared as follows:
For projects with annual direct costs ≥$180,000
- School of Medicine – 5/7 (e.g., $50,000 of a $70,000 request)
- Department – 2/7 (may include faculty salary coverage)
For projects with annual direct costs <$180,000
- School of Medicine – 5/7 (e.g., $28,570 of a $40,000 request)
- Department – 2/7 (may include faculty salary coverage)
Eligible PIs must have primary appointments in the School of Medicine.
