Postdoctoral Researchers: An Integral Part of Great Scientific Innovation

February 4, 2025 by jta6n@virginia.edu

The School of Medicine is excited to debut a new video celebrating our postdoctoral researchers, commonly referred to as postdocs, who are part of a vibrant research community at UVA achieving scientific breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.

A postdoc is an individual who has completed their doctoral degree (PhD) and is engaged in a temporary period of mentored research and scholarly training. The position is often intended to provide additional research experience and skills development beyond the doctoral degree and before pursuing a faculty or other advanced research position.

A rich network of postdoctoral scholars and researchers is critical to grow our state-of-the-art research programs and facilities, particularly with the upcoming Manning Institute of Biotechnology.

Our postdocs experience a diverse research culture, interdisciplinary collaborations across Grounds, and special mentorship opportunities. The School of Medicine and UVA also offer many additional resources to support our postdoc community including seminars and workshops, advising services, and networking events that advance professional development.

Outstanding post docs are critical to the success of great scientific innovation! If you or someone you know may be interested in applying for a postdoctoral position at the UVA School of Medicine, see our job listings through UVA HR.
