Third-year Neurosurgery Resident Natasha Ironside programmed an artificial intelligence tool that quickly and accurately quantifies the extent of brain bleeds, or hematomas, and swelling (edema) captured on CT scans. She published the findings in the journal Stroke in 2020 and is leading a subsequent study to indisputably establish that measurements from the AI program are equivalent to those done by human experts.
