For any biomedical science topic that will benefit children and is appropriate to the Foundation’s interests. Applications due May 2nd 2022.
The VPR’s Office wishes to announce an internal process for selecting the UVA candidate for the Hartwell Postdoctoral Fellowship 2022 Internal Competition.
- Internal Submission Deadline: Monday, May 2, 2022
- Funding Organization’s Deadline: Thursday, June 30, 2022
- Cycle: Summer 2022
- Discipline/Subject Area: biomedical science related to children’s health
- Description: This notice serves to announce the internal process for selecting one (1) UVA postdoctoral trainee for the Hartwell Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Overview
UVA may select one postdoc for funding. (Note: this is not the same program as the Individual Biomedical Research Award). The postdoctoral program is open to any biomedical science topic that will benefit children and is appropriate to the Foundation’s interests. See pdf linked to this call for a description of those interests (“Fundable Projects”) and guidelines for the fellowship award (“Hartwell Fellowship”). As one of the Hartwell Foundation’s top 10 biomedical research institutions UVA has special access to funding that is not widely available. The postdoctoral program provides funds that can be critical in professional development. We encourage proposals from all qualified postdocs.
Eligibility
Hartwell Fellows must hold a PhD or equivalent and be citizens of the US. The mentor must not be currently funded from a Hartwell Investigator award. Award funds may be used for salary, health insurance, or travel related to a scientific meeting, but not for purchase of supplies, equipment, other fringe benefits, or indirect costs.
Applicants must pledge to remain in their current positions for the entire 2-year term of the fellowship. Please note that the Hartwell Foundation strongly prefers to fund fellowships in departments not previously represented (past Hartwell Fellows have come from the Departments of Chemistry, Infectious Disease, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, and Cell Biology).
Award Size
Each Hartwell Fellowship will provide support for two years at $50,000 direct cost per year towards the Research Associate position. The Postdoctoral Fellow’s PI must make up the rest to provide full benefits. Under no circumstances can winning a Hartwell result in a pay cut for the trainee.
Additional Information: See pdf guidelines linked here to this announcement and/or http://www.thehartwellfoundation.org.
