Richard Price, PhD, co-director of UVA Health’s Focused Ultrasound Cancer Immunotherapy Center and professor of biomedical engineering, was featured across Virginia and on national TV discussing how focused ultrasound can treat debilitating brain lesions. These lesions, known as cerebral cavernous malformations, can cause seizures, strokes, and other serious complications.
Dr. Price and other researchers are testing a new, less risky way to treat brain lesions using sound waves and tiny bubbles instead of surgery or radiation. “It’s not possible to do this kind of work in a lot of other places around the world simply because they don’t actually have what we have here at the University of Virginia,” Dr. Price said, in regard to focused ultrasound technology.
