Rebecca Scharf, MD, an associate professor in the UVA Department of Pediatrics, was highlighted in Scientific American about how giving children chores contributes to their growth and social development.
Is there any real value in chores? Do kids who do them actually gain any benefits? According to Dr. Scharf, “We found that children who were doing chores often, or very often, as the survey asked, were more likely to have a sense of capability or more of a sense of being able to do things in the future than children who were doing chores rarely or never.”
