Patrick Jackson, MD, an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UVA, was featured throughout Virginia and on TV Stations nationally talking about bird flu.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported 53 confirmed human cases of bird flu, with over half of these cases occurring in California.
“Groups like the CDC have characterized bird flu as a relatively low risk. And I think that’s true in the sense that we have not seen the virus being transmitted from one person to another in a sustained way. That’s what’s really required for a virus to become an epidemic or pandemic threat,” said Dr. Jackson.
