Mitchell Rosner, MD, the Henry B. Mulholland Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine, was cited in The Wall Street Journal article that highlighted the risks of overhydration.

Dr. Rosner has researched the phenomenon of water intoxication and written national and international hydration guidelines. In The Wall Street Journal article, he stresses that the innate thirst sensation provides protection against dehydration and people should drink to their thirst with some supplementation of salt losses. This issue is particularly prevalent in the hotter summer months and with more endurance-type activities.
