Michael Ayers, MD, an assistant professor and sports cardiologist in the Department of Medicine, was featured on TV stations nationally discussing the importance of staying active during the winter.

The reduced daylight and cold temperatures of winter can sap motivation for some people. Cardiologists suggest aiming for 150 minutes of exercise per week. Breaking it up into five- or ten-minute sessions throughout the day can help make reaching that goal more manageable.

“If you think through your day ‘How can I continue to accumulate these little three to five-minute bouts of moderate activity?’ Dr. Ayers said. “Thirty to 60 minutes a week actually becomes a very reachable number.”
