JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, a professor of Ob-Gyn and director of UVA’s Midlife Health Center, was interviewed by U.S. News & World Report about at-home menopause tests. Since the transition to menopause can take place over time, it can sometimes be difficult for women to know where they are in the process. The article discusses the pros and cons of the at-home tests.
Dr. Pinkerton states, “There’s no single blood test or at-home menopause test that reliably predicts when a woman is going to go through menopause or exactly where she is in the menopausal transition.” She says, “I don’t usually recommend over-the-counter testing, but I’m happy to look at the test results, menstrual history and bothersome symptoms to understand where they are in the menopause process.”
