JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the UVA Midlife Health Center, was featured in over 100 national outlets, including U.S. News & World Report, discussing a promising new treatment for hot flashes.
New research indicates that an emerging drug, elinzanetant, could offer a valuable option for women seeking relief from hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. Overall, about 62% of more than 300 postmenopausal women in two trials experienced “at least a 50% reduction in [hot flash] frequency,” wrote a team led by Dr. Pinkerton. According to Pinkerton’s team, up to 80% of women will experience hot flashes—medically referred to as menopausal vasomotor symptoms (VSM)—during menopause, with some having these symptoms for many years.
