Alisa Bahl, PhD
Alisa Bahl, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and Pediatric Psychology, was spotlighted in the media throughout Virginia and on national TV stations discussing Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
UVA Health is providing a unique and innovative therapy called Parent-Child Interaction Therapy for children and their caregivers across the Commonwealth. This treatment is designed to help young children with behavioral challenges.
Dr. Bahl explains that during each therapy session, a parent and child are placed in a room together. The parent wears an earpiece, through which the therapist provides real-time guidance on what to do or say when the child misbehaves.
“The first phase really focuses on increasing and building a secure and warm relationship with a parent and child,” Dr. Bahl said. “The second phase is designed to teach parents skills to help their children to follow directions.”
