I am writing this statement from the 5th floor of the new Battle Building on our first day of patient care on the main floors. We saw our first patients in the Teen and Young Adult Center in June, thereby formally inaugurating the building. My thanks to all of you who have worked tirelessly (and stressfully) for the years-long planning effort. Although the effort has caused sleepless nights for those working out the details, seeing the idea finally come to fruition is enormously rewarding. Please take a moment to recognize that the designers, planners, and administrators who have brought the Battle Building to life are contributing to the care of our patients, just as the health care givers do. I thank them for their superb efforts. As we go live, please try to be patient with inevitable frustrations of a new building. We will provide better and better care for our outpatients, and helping to straighten out the little shortcomings of the building can be challenging, but also fun. If we agree to keep the patient experience foremost, it will all work out.
As always, thanks for all you do in the service of the children and families of Virginia.
Jim
