Dr. Tracey Hoke: Appointed Interim Chief of Quality & Performance Improvement

You have all heard by now that Tracey Hoke has accepted the position as Interim Chief of Quality and Performance Improvement for the UVA Health System. In the wake of this decision, the Department of Pediatrics will undergo reorganization of our leadership structure as follows:

  1. G. Paul Matherne, M.D., M.B.A. will be named Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, and Co-Associate Chief Medical Officer for the UVA Children’s Hospital. Dr. Matherne will share that CMO role with Dr. Hoke until mid-2014 to assure stable transition as we move into the Battle Building. Paul will bring his considerable experience and training in clinical medicine and the strategic management of health services to bear in this position, which will serve continued advancementof our clinical missions.
  2. Jonathan Swanson, M.D. will be named Chief Quality Officer for Children’s Services, effective July 1,2013. We are very proud to have Jonathan available to the Children’s Hospital to serve in this role as he completes his M.S. degree in quality improvement. Jonathan’s considerable talents will continue our momentum in the QI arena as we strive to provide the best possible outcomes for the children we proudly serve.
