The UVA core pediatrics residency training program and all pediatrics fellowships were notified last week by the ACGME of their status of “continued accreditation” for the coming year. Under the Next Accreditation System, all programs are reviewed annually using data collected by surveys, required reporting, and outside collaborators. This is a dramatic change from the past system of reviews done every five years and is designed to provide more “real time” assessments of the activities, successes, and challenges in the training programs.
All program directors, program coordinators, faculty, staff, and trainees should congratulate each other on this “job VERY well done” by the entire program. It reflects our real commitment to the quality of the training we provide and our commitment to the children that we serve.
