UVA Anesthesiology resident, Martin Hehir, MD, has successfully qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in the marathon. Training for the Olympics while balancing his roles as a third-year resident and a father to three daughters is no easy feat. In a recent interview with CBS 19 News, Dr. Hehir said that he wakes up earlier to get it all done.

Dr. Hehir currently holds one of the fastest marathon times in U.S. history. He began running in middle school and said that he fell in love with the sport because of the clear, measurable correlation between effort invested and performance outcomes. The Olympic trials are slated to take place on February 3, 2024 in Orlando, Florida. This is an incredible accomplishment, and we wish him the very best of luck!
