Robert M. Carey, MD, former dean of the School of Medicine and a prominent blood pressure researcher, has received the Endocrine Society’s highest honor—the 2026 Fred Conrad Koch Lifetime Achievement Award—for his lifetime achievements in endocrinology.

Dr. Carey is the David A. Harrison III, Distinguished Professor of Medicine in UVA’s Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He served as dean of the School of Medicine from 1986-2002.

Dr. Carey, a world-renowned clinical endocrinologist, is a leader in cardiovascular endocrinology. His clinical work in hypertension and groundbreaking research have advanced our understanding of the renin-angiotensin system, renal dopaminergic system, and mechanisms of pressure-natriuresis.
