Margaret (Megan) Tracci, MD, JD, has been named the new president of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery (SAVS) and becomes its first woman president. The UVA Health vascular surgeon and UVA School of Medicine professor of surgery assumed the new role at the close of the 2025 SAVS annual meeting in January.
In addition to maintaining a busy surgical practice, she is active nationally in health policy and currently serves as the chair of the Society for Vascular Surgery’s Policy and Advocacy Council and as a member of the American College of Surgeons Health Policy and Advocacy Group.
Dr. Tracci earned her undergraduate degree at Stanford University and a dual MD/JD degree with a focus on health policy and patient safety from the University of Illinois. She completed her training in general and vascular surgery at the UVA School of Medicine, joined the faculty in 2010, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a distinguished fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
“The Southern Association for Vascular Surgery embodies the very best in a regional organization,” Dr. Tracci said. “The meeting is a forum for excellent science and clinical conversation and the society a collegial home for surgeons from all backgrounds to share ideas, build friendships, and support one another. I could not be more honored by this role and by the privilege of helping the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery celebrate its 50th anniversary and continue to make history over its next 50 years.”
