J. Kim Penberthy, PhD, was presented the Psychologist of the Year Award by the Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists at their spring conference in Alexandria, VA on April 14, 2023. This prestigious award is presented to a psychologist who has made significant contributions to the profession of psychology in the immediate past year. Dr. Penberthy is the Chester F. Carlson Professor of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences at UVA Health and is the president of the American Psychological Association Society of Clinical Psychology. She has been a longtime faculty member at the School of Medicine and has championed the role of clinical psychology in the state, nation, and across the globe with her national and international service and research. She is the past president of the International CBASP Society, and member of the American Board of Clinical Psychology. She is the associate director for the UVA Clinician Wellness Program and has served on scores of committees and workgroups in the university and health system. Dr. Penberthy is committed to the science-practitioner model and promotes empirically supported psychological interventions to promote psychological wellbeing and flourishing.
