Irène Mathieu, MD, the assistant director of the Program in Health Humanities, Center for Health Humanities and Ethics and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, had a poem published in The Best American Poetry 2022. This anthology series has been published yearly since 1988. According to Simon and Schuster, the 2022 volume includes “a selection of the year’s most brilliant, striking, and innovative poems, with comments from the poets themselves lending insight into their work.” Dr. Mathieu’s work was also published in The Southern Poetry Anthology: Volume IX, VirginiaCongratulations to Dr. Mathieu on her outstanding accomplishments.

Dr. Mathieu is a general pediatrician, whose work encompasses pediatric mental health, global health and health disparities, especially as they relate to climate justice. She is currently a 2022-2024 iTHRIV scholar examining community-based approaches to improve pediatric mental health.
