Casey Cavanagh, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, was awarded the 2023 Excellence in Clinical Health Psychology by an Early Career Professional Award by the American Psychological Association’s Society for Health Psychology. This prestigious award recognizes Dr. Cavanagh’s outstanding contributions to the field of psychology and her excellence in providing care for her patients.

Dr. Cavanagh is a clinical psychologist who specializes in cardiovascular behavioral medicine, chronic disease management, comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions, geropsychology, and presurgical transplant and bariatric evaluations. She also cares for patients admitted to the hospital as part of the behavioral medicine consultation-liaison service. Her research interests include examining methods of improving treatment adherence and patient engagement in chronic disease management, especially in cardiovascular disease.
