Alan Matsumoto, MD, Receives VIVA Foundation’s ATLAS Award for Impact in Interventional Radiology

Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, the Theodore E. Keats Endowed Professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, is the recipient of the VIVA Foundation’s 2024 ATLAS Award.

The ATLAS Award – an acronym for “A Teacher, Leader, And Scholar” – was announced on May 29. It recognizes Dr. Matsumoto’s impact as a scholar and leader in the field of vascular medicine across the United States and the world.

As a vascular and interventional radiologist, Dr. Matsumoto has been a faculty member in the School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging since 1991 and served as chair from 2009 to 2023. This past year the Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, and Julie A. Matsumoto, MD, Endowed Fund was established to advance the missions and science of radiology.

Earlier this spring, Dr. Matsumoto was also named the chair of the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Board of Chancellors. Founded in 1923, the ACR is a professional medical society representing more than 40,000 physicians across the United States and Canada. Dr. Matsumoto previously served as vice chair for the ACR’s Board of Chancellors.
