The Committee on Women in Medicine and Science (COWIMS), the Women Leadership Development Seminar (WLDS), run by UVA Women in Anesthesiology and Women in Surgery, and the Women in Internal Medicine Network (WIMN) hosted a Negotiation Skills workshop on May 15 facilitated by the UVA Law School’s Professor Molly Bishop Shadel. Professor Shadel shared skills and tips on how to handle negotiations and highlighted some negotiation topics pertinent to medicine and science. Almost 50 women from the School of Medicine gathered for the event. Participants included medical students, PhD students, basic science faculty, clinical faculty, and staff. Professor Shadel also discussed how to handle challenges that many women and minorities face when navigating difficult negotiations.
COWIMS, WLDS, and WIMN are united in their mission to help achieve gender equity in medicine and science, and to support women and gender minorities in the UVA School of Medicine through facilitating workshops and promoting both leadership opportunities and professional development.
