The School of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Development is excited to announce the appointment of Monique Dufour, PhD, as the Director of Faculty Development. In this role, Dr. Dufour will continue the great work of Troy Buer, PhD, leading the Early Career Faculty Mentoring Program, the Junior Faculty Development Program, managing the Department Chair Leadership Series, and will lead the office in development of new programs to meet the needs of our School of Medicine faculty members. In addition, Dr. Dufour and Ms. Ashley Ayers, Senior Director for Faculty Leadership Programs, will partner on the preparation, execution and follow-up action planning for the 2025 AAMC StandPoint Faculty Engagement Survey.
Dr. Dufour comes to UVA from Virginia Tech, where she was an Associate Collegiate Professor of History specializing in the history of medicine, medical humanities, and the history of books and reading. She was also a Faculty Fellow in Faculty Affairs in the VT Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
For over ten years, Dr. Dufour has led programs for faculty and graduate students as writers, educators and researchers. Her research and writing have appeared in journals such as To Improve the Academy, Inside Higher Education, and Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning. Her book, Sustainable Teaching, is under advance contract with the “Teaching, Engaging, and Thriving in Higher Education” series at the University of Oklahoma Press.
