The work of primary care physicians like Kim Dowdell, MD, extends far beyond routine checkups. It involves fostering relationships, navigating complex health systems and advocating for patients’ well-being.
Dr. Dowdell has been leading the ambulatory primary care response to access on medicine over the past 6 months and she has done it with passion and grace. She is a dedicated primary care physician and still finds time to attend on the inpatient service several weeks a year. Dr. Dowdell leads the primary care physician team at University Physicians – Charlottesville which has been a top-performing clinic for the last 4 years. She has also been a leader in eConsults which has been a huge resource for all primary care physicians in the health system as well as a leader in telehealth starting during the pandemic. Finally, she finds time to balance work with her two amazing children and mentors residents who aspire to do the same in their future careers.
The Committee on Women and Science (COWIMS) would like to congratulate her for selection as the COWIMS Woman of the Month for January.
