
Leslie Olsakovsky, MD
The Committee on Women in Medicine and Science (COWIMS) is proud to recognize the work of Leslie Olsakovsky, MD, as January’s Woman of the Month, for her outstanding contributions to the field of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Olsakovsky, an associate professor in the UVA Department of Ophthalmology and vice chair of clinical affairs, is a leading expert in Virginia for cataract and corneal diseases and has one of the busiest cataract surgery practices in the Commonwealth. With 36 years of experience, she is the medical director of all UVA Ophthalmology eye clinics. She is passionate about providing the highest quality and most advanced care available and has an absolute commitment to giving patients precisely the care and treatment they need to improve their vision and resume the activities that are important to them. She is known for creating an excellent patient experience from the pre-operative evaluation to the procedure and post-operative visits.
Dr. Olsakovsky is an amazingly effective and dedicated teacher of cataract surgery. Residents benefit from her ability and experience teaching them as they begin their professional journeys as eye surgeons. Her impact on the field of ophthalmology arises from the excellent care her trainees continue to provide for their patients across the country.
