Attention: Clinical Faculty
In our UVA Health One Future Together | Health and Hope for All strategic plan, one of the key initiatives of the Strengthening Our Foundation goal is a commitment to provide superior patient outcomes by leading in the delivering of safe, high quality, and patient-centered care. One of the most important measures of quality is mortality.
Although our overall mortality metrics are good, one of the reasons external benchmarks don’t reflect our excellent mortality is that we don’t always document and code our very ill patients with the diagnoses necessary to accurately and comprehensively reflect their high severity of illness and risk of mortality. This can be rectified, but it requires a partnership between our physicians who create the medical documentation and the nurses and coders who transfer that information into codes for each patient. To solve for this, UVA Health is launching an initiative to optimize our clinical documentation.
It is essential that these improvement efforts be physician-led. Therefore, UVA Health is establishing a team of physician leaders across various disciplines.
If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please contact Chip Murray by Monday, April 24. This is a great opportunity to get involved in hospital management and could be a stepping-stone to other opportunities. Selected faculty members will be offered protected time in exchange for their leadership in helping move this initiative forward.
