Associate Professor Amy Mathers, MD, in the Departments of Medicine and Pathology, represented the American Society of Microbiology (ASM) at the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Congressional hearing on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) April 28, 2023.
Dr. Mathers, who also serves as associate director of clinical microbiology and medical director of antimicrobial stewardship at UVA, provided insightful testimony on the critical elements necessary to address AMR. Her advocacy for investments in basic and translational research, improved monitoring and reporting of AMR, enhanced diagnostics, and incentivizing careers in medical microbiology highlighted the need for a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating this emerging public health threat.
