Abbie Salcedo, PhD, MBA Named Director of Faculty Affairs and Claire Reeger, MPA Promoted to Assistant Director

Abbie Salcedo, PhD, MBA

Abbie Salcedo, PhD, MBA, has been selected as the School of Medicine’s new Director of Faculty Affairs. She will provide leadership and day-to-day management of the SOM Office of Faculty Affairs which includes designing and implementing policy, procedures, and services to support faculty throughout their careers as teachers and mentors, investigators, and patient care providers.

Dr. Salcedo comes to UVA from the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School where she serves as Assistant Director of Operations and Academic Strategy. She oversees daily strategic and operational business functions for the Department of Diagnostic Medicine which includes work in research, education and clinical missions. She also conducts research, writes, and presents on workplace racial inequality and professional development. Her most recent work focused on racial and gender disparity in the academic workplace. Dr. Salcedo’s outstanding leadership skills and commitment to supporting a diverse and equitable academic environment will be invaluable in guiding our faculty in the achievement of their career goals.

Dr. Salcedo earned her BS in psychology from the University of New Orleans, her MBA from the University of Houston – Clear Lake, and her PhD in Adult Education from Texas State University. In her free time, Dr. Salcedo likes to read, travel internationally, and spend time volunteering. Inspired daily by her husband and their two daughters, Dr. Salcedo is looking forward to using her positive attitude and energy to encourage others to strive toward success when she begins her new role in the Office of Faculty Affairs on December 5, 2022.

 

Claire Reeger

Claire Reeger, MPA

Claire Reeger, MPA, has been promoted from Faculty Affairs Project Associate to Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs. She will continue managing faculty academic appointments, liaising with human resources, and navigating the complex promotion and tenure process, but in her new role hopes to broaden her understanding of the School and create additional resources for faculty.

Ms. Reeger earned her BA in sociology from Bridgewater College, a graduate certificate in public administration from the University of Virginia, and her master of public administration (MPA) degree from Virginia Tech. She moved to Charlottesville in 2013 when her husband was hired as a Charlottesville police officer, and she has enjoyed living here ever since. She previously worked for Rare Book School and UVA’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) where she managed the CTE’s many programs supporting the UVA teaching faculty and led CTE’s effort to become Green Workplace Certified. Ms. Reeger’s interests outside of work include cooking, horseback riding, and hiking with her husband and dog.
