poster for extracelullar vesicles workshop in Feb. 2025The ‘Tiny Packages with Big Impact: Workshop on Extracellular Vesicle (EVs) Separation and Characterization’ was established in March 2024 at UVA to address a critical gap in hands-on training for EV research. As Extracellular Vesicles gain prominence in fields like intercellular signaling, diagnostics, and drug delivery, this workshop filled a crucial need for practical expertise. Beyond offering cutting-edge insights through lectures from national and international EV experts, the workshop provides a unique networking platform, connecting participants with peers and leading experts in the field. This intensive one-week program stands as a pivotal opportunity to immerse in EV research, bridging gaps and empowering the next generation of scientists at UVA and beyond.

UVA is hosting its second workshop from February 22 – 27, 2025.

Registration deadline is February 6, 2025. Register by clicking the Event Link button above.

Accolades From the March 2024 Workshop

“Better than my highest expectations. Nicely crafted curriculum. Engaging talks on highly relevant content, that were then reinforced with related hands-on training. I would recommend it to anyone starting in the EV field or who may be working on an EV project in isolation (not with EV expertise already). It provides a very inviting space to be a novice and learn the small but very important details of a very technical field. At no point did I feel like I couldn’t ask a question—I was all but sure the trainee next to me would have the same thought!”

“Highly recommend to others, in fact would love to take a refresher course in a couple of years. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested or actively working in the EV field. Regardless of their level of expertise, I found this course to impart knowledge and foster great conversation. Also, I appreciated the fact that this course reinforces that there is no single method to separate or characterize EVs; rather we need to use complementary methods based on our starting matrix and research question to reliably report findings.”

“I would highly recommend the course to anybody just getting started in the EV field; starting alone by reading literature can be daunting and this course was super helpful. It was practical and helpful. Most of all, I had a great time meeting colleagues who are excited about the EV research. I had a chance to get motivated by interacting with others and learning from the experts. Thank you.”

“The speakers, teachers, and organizers were all highly dedicated and committed to the bigger cause of establishing best practices and standardization in the emerging area of extra vesicular particular research. When I first learned about EV field, I didn’t know how to approach and had too many questions from just reading papers. The workshop was practical for a beginner in the field with hands on experience. I learned a lot about important things to consider and how to approach for the next step. The class gave me great insight for my research in the future.”
