The 2024 Graduate Biosciences Society Spring Symposium will be held April 11, 2024, with a combination of outstanding student talks, a poster session for current graduate students to share their work, and a fantastic keynote speaker presentation by Mary “Nora” Disis, MD!
Dr. Mary “Nora” Disis is an expert in breast and ovarian cancer immunology and translational research. She is one of the pioneering investigators who discovered that HER-2/neu is a tumor antigen. Her research has led to several clinical trials and her current work focuses on the discovery of novel immunologic targets in various malignancies and the development of vaccines and therapeutics that exploit these findings.
Dr. Disis has a number of accolades and her current titles include: director of the UW Institute of Translational Health Science and the Center for Translational Medicine in Women’s Health. She is also associate dean of the UW School of Medicine, dean of Research and Graduate Education, associate dean of Translational Science, Helen B. Slonaker Endowed Professor for Cancer Research, professor of Medicine and Oncology, adjunct professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pathology, and a member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC).
