Gibson Kibiki Professor Gibson Kibiki, MD, PhD, founding CEO of the East African Health Research Commission, the CEO of the Africa Research Excellence Fund, and longstanding collaborative partner of the University of Virginia presents “Digital Regional East African Community Health (Digital REACH) Initiative.”

Digital REACH initiative, is an innovative, first-of-its-kind effort to take a regional perspective in advancing digital technology for health. Digital REACH works to transform the health sector by strengthening all aspects of the health system and expediting the achievement of the UN SDG for a healthy and prosperous East Africa.

The East African Community (EAC) has the opportunity to scale uptake of digital technologies to transform the health sector by strengthening all aspects of the health system and expediting the achievement of the UN SDG for a healthy and prosperous East Africa. A regional approach to digital health (i.e., comprising 7 countries with >300 million population) is necessary to support collective health priorities in the region where there is a free movement of people, labor and business. The priorities include: improving patient-centered health services, expanding cross-border health services, implementing the One-Health approach, and preventing and responding to global health security threats.
