Active Attacker Prevention and Response Training

June 8, 2022 by pmb3fz@virginia.edu

While incidents involving an active attacker at medical centers and on university campuses are rare, the impact on the individuals and communities affected cannot be overstated.  You are invited to attend a 60-minute Active Attacker Prevention and Response training where the Department of Safety and Security will discuss what University Threat Assessment, UVA Health Emergency Management, and UVA Police are doing to prevent, prepare for and, if needed, respond to an active attacker event.

When:    June 21, 2022 | 5-6 p.m.
Where:  Sandridge Auditorium

Participants will learn about emergency notifications, how to report concerning behavior and easy-to-remember options for people who are faced with a violent situation. This event is free and open to all students, team members, faculty and staff of both UVA Health and the academic division. For more information, contact Shane Anderson, Director of Emergency Management. Register here for this important training session.

Also, in response to this most recent tragedy directly impacting a hospital campus, UVA Health is actively reviewing our own security access standards and protocols to ensure the safety of our teams, patients and visitors. Additional communication will be forthcoming pending evaluation of our current protocols.

Please remember, if you, a colleague, or a friend is hurting, counseling services are available via FEAP at 434.243.2643.
