2024 Postdoctoral Research Symposium – Unifying the UVA Postdoc Community

The UVA Postdoc Association and the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs are hosting the 2024 UVA Postdoctoral Research Symposium. We invite you to join us for a day of engaging interdisciplinary talks and networking opportunities with postdocs from across all disciplines at UVA.

Keynote

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Caleb McKinney, is the Chair of the Board of Directors at the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA). In addition, he is an associate professor and associate dean of graduate and postdoctoral training & development for Biomedical Graduate Education (BGE) at Georgetown University. He will share with us his experience on building a postdoc community at Georgetown and enriching the postdoc experience at the university level and from the NPA.

Highlights

The Symposium will feature a Lightning Talks Competition, Research Talks and a Resource Fair. The symposium will be followed by a reception and an awards ceremony. We hope to share our research with a broad UVA audience, celebrate interdisciplinary research, and facilitate potential collaborations among our amazing Postdoc Community.

This year the UVA Postdoctoral Research Symposium Committee has partnered with the UVA Library to publish the collection of abstracts presented at the symposium in LibraOpen, the open access repository of UVA.

Workshops

PhD Plus and the UVA Postdoc Association (PDA) are excited to co-host a three-part virtual workshop series to support presenters at the 2024 Postdoctoral Research Symposium. All postdocs who are planning to present at the Symposium are strongly encouraged to register by noon on Wednesday, March 20, especially those submitting abstracts by the deadline on Friday, April 12 at 11:59 PM.

The series includes:
“Strategies for Drafting a Compelling Conference Abstract”
March 21, from 12:00-1:00 PM, with the first session,

“What is a Lightning Talk and How Do I Get Started” Workshop
March 28 at 3:00-4:00 PM – Save the date!

“How to Design an Engaging Presentation or Lightning Talk” Workshop
April 10 at 12:00-1:30 PM – Save the date!
