The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research is excited to announce the upcoming 2024 Carter/Anderson Symposium:

Cancer Immunology: From Insights to Innovations

Immunotherapy has emerged as the latest pillar of cancer care and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted health services, leading to delays and reductions in cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatments. These disruptions are expected to lead to increases in cancer diagnoses at later stages, highlighting a critical need for better understanding of anti-tumor immune mechanisms and obstacles for the development efficacious therapeutics.

Date and time: 1:00-5:00 PM, April 29th.
Location: Medical Education Building – Room 3110
Reception: 5:00 pm – MR5 Room 2005

Keynote Speakers

  • Dr. Padmanee Sharma, MD, PhD: University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
Title: “Integrating Clinical and Laboratory Research to Identify Mechanisms of Response and Resistance to Immune Checkpoint Therapy”
  • Dr. Tyler Jacks, PhD: Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Title: “Investigating Tumor-Immune Dynamics, Using Genetically Engineered Mouse Models of Cancer”
  • Dr. Ellen Pure, PhD: University of Pennsylvania
Title: “Immune Status and Stromal Niches in Solid Tumors”
  • Dr. Elizabeth Jaffee, MD: John Hopkins Medicine
Title: “Cancer Immunotherapy in the Era of Precision Medicine”

The Carter/Anderson Symposium features speakers that are leaders in the field of cancer immunology and will update us on the latest and greatest discoveries in immune-oncology with a focus on cancer vaccines, checkpoint blockade, model systems, and the immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment.

Join us for an opportunity to learn from these distinguished researchers and engage in insightful discussions.

This symposium is funded by the generous support of the sponsored by the Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research and the John F. Anderson Fund. Additionally, the event is dedicated to celebrating the distinguished career of Dr. Victor Engelhard for his contributions to the field of cancer immunology.
