Preventative, Acute, Chronic, and Longitudinal Ambulatory Care Seeking Preceptors

July 27, 2022 by pmb3fz@virginia.edu

PACLAC Preventative, Acute, Chronic, and Longitudinal Ambulatory Care (PACLAC) is a 6-week clerkship that provides 3rd-year, Phase 2 medical students in Charlottesville and INOVA with unparalleled clinical experiences in Family Medicine or General Internal Medicine. During the PACLAC clerkship, students are paired up with doctors across our community, who serve as Preceptors for the program. These doctors provide our MD students with exceptional learning encounters and offer them the opportunity to put medical skills into practice.

PACLAC is currently seeking Preceptors to provide this important training to our students. Preceptors play a vital role in teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians – plus they can earn CME credits and expand networking opportunities for their practice!

One PACLAC Preceptor describes the experience as follows:

Being a preceptor is fun and rewarding. The rewarding part is helping the students learn the “art of medicine” – connecting with patients and watching them gain confidence in their interviewing, critical thinking, and communication skills. I also enjoy learning from some of the questions they ask me which enhances my own knowledge base, making me a more skilled doctor.

The PACLAC clerkship is directed by Drs. Terri Babineau (Family Medicine), Anthony Marino (General, Geriatric, Palliative and Hospital Medicine), and Christina Tieu (General, Geriatric, Palliative and Hospital Medicine). Administrative support for the program is provided by Cheryl Adams and Christina Porter.

If you’d like to become a Preceptor, please contact Cheryl Adams at cwa3f@virginia.edu.
