Women’s History Month Student Panel Celebrates Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Student panel discusses Women's History Month 2024On March 7, the School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and UVA Health’s Office of Diversity and Community Engagement co-sponsored a storytelling event in honor of Women’s History Month that featured four School of Medicine students. The panelists included Kendall Bromley, a PhD student in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics; Hirra Chaudhary, a medical student; Dana May, a PhD student in the Neuroscience Graduate Program; and Laiba Murad, a medical student.

The mission of the program was to acknowledge and celebrate the 2024 Women’s History Month theme: Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. The program acknowledged the countless women who understand the need to eliminate bias and discrimination in our lives and institutions to create a more positive future.

During the discussion, the panelists touched on a variety of topics including the following: paths into medicine and science, struggles they’ve overcome to get into UVA School of Medicine and to persist while here, and mentorship.

Audience members included undergraduates who attend UVA and other universities across the Commonwealth and UVA administration.
