Tracy Downs, MD
The UVA Department of Urology is pleased to announce Tracy M. Downs, MD, a Professor of Urology specializing in the surgical treatment of urologic cancers, received the 2025 Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award from the American Urological Association. Dr. Downs was selected for his mentorship and devotion to advancing diversity and inclusion programs in urology.
In addition to being a busy urologic cancer surgeon and dedicated educator, Dr. Downs serves as Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the School of Medicine and Chief Diversity & Community Engagement Officer for UVA Health. In these roles, he coordinates and aligns diversity efforts across our mission areas of education, clinical, research, and community. Dr. Downs has oversight of all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the SOM, including the Office of Diversity and all DEI efforts among the different departments and centers.
The School of Medicine joins the Department of Urology in congratulating Dr. Downs on this prestigious honor. We appreciate his extraordinary efforts to advance DEI initiatives in the Department of Urology, School of Medicine, and UVA Health.
