Birthing Justice GraphicUVA School of Medicine’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the Theta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. co-hosted a screening of Birthing Justice on February 8.

Birthing Justice is a documentary about Black maternal mortality. According to current data, Black women are three to five times more likely to die from pregnancy complications than White women. The documentary screening offered attendees an opportunity to learn more about this public health crisis and connect with members of the UVA and Charlottesville communities to discuss ways Black maternal health outcomes can be improved.

Approximately 60 people were in attendance, including undergraduate, medical, and biomedical sciences students; physicians and nurses; and Charlottesville community members.
