Dear School of Medicine community,
I am thrilled to report the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) has re-accredited the UVA School of Medicine for a full eight years — the longest duration of accreditation a medical school can receive. While we were found to be in compliance with all 12 Standards, we look forward to continuing to monitor the success of our program over time, with the next LCME survey visit anticipated during the 2030-2031 academic year.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Meg Keeley, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Education for leading our education mission, and to the entire SOM Medical Education Management Committee which includes Megan Bray, MD, Associate Dean for Curriculum; John Densmore, MD, Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs; Michael Ryan, MD, Associate Dean for Assessment and Evaluation; Craig Cheifetz, MD, Associate Dean for the Regional Campus; and Lesley Thomas, Assistant Dean for Compliance and Accreditation. I would also like to thank Kim Holman and Serena Watson in the Office for Educational Affairs, the LCME Self-Study Task Force, site visit panelists, and especially the students who led and participated in the Independent Student Analysis. Preparing for this LCME survey visit required two years of preparation and hard work – I am grateful to all who were deeply committed to the School of Medicine and this process.
As we continue to educate and train the next generation of physicians and scientists, I am tremendously proud that our school seeks to uphold the highest standards of excellence in medical education. I look forward to seeing all that we will accomplish together in the future.
