September is Women in Medicine Month, an annual celebration recognizing the significant accomplishments of women in medicine along with the issues impacting women’s health and women in the medical profession. This year, UVA Health embraces the theme of “Celebrating Women in Medicine: Bold Thinkers, Courageous Innovators,” and is taking this opportunity to honor all of our female team members in medicine and science who are playing an important role in supporting our mission of transforming health and inspiring hope in our local communities and beyond.

Here at UVA Health, we are proud that women are well represented throughout our organization including in leadership roles. Through our School of Medicine and School of Nursing, we are also committed to empowering the next generation of women working in healthcare to carry forward our mission.

Better representation across genders, gender identities, and gender expressions among UVA Health team members leads to better patient outcomes for all. As we celebrate Women in Medicine Month, we highlight our female physicians, researchers, nurses, healthcare providers, and staff who are playing an integral role in advancing women’s health advocacy, ensuring comprehensive care for women, and consistently demonstrating bold and innovative thinking to support and deliver superior quality, patient safety and outcomes.
